Michael J. Perillo Jr.:
After graduating from New York Law School with honors in 1983,
Mike began his legal career serving four and a half years on active duty with the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Navy. Among other duties, he was engaged in the prosecution of Courts-Martial. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal in 1987 for meritorious service as a JAG Officer.
After leaving the Navy, Mike worked as a Senior Assistant Public Defender (Felony Division) and later as a Senior Assistant State's Attorney (Felony Division). In each of those positions, Mike appeared in the felony courtrooms of Lake County, Illinois, on a daily basis. During those years, he both prosecuted and defended a broad spectrum of cases including drug offenses, white collar crimes, sexual abuse, and all common law felonies.
In 2007, Mike and partners Mike Noonan and Jason Marks obtained a 4.7 million dollar settlement for a 5 year old girl who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a truck accident.
Mike typically appears and tries cases in both civil and
criminal courts. He has also represented active duty service
members at General Courts-Martial. (Read
more about military criminal justice.) Mike is experienced
in matters involving the negligence
of nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Periodically,
he serves as chairperson in cases submitted for mandatory
arbitration in this circuit.
Mike played four years of varsity baseball in college, serving
as team captain during his junior and senior years. He has
volunteered as a youth league baseball coach in his local
community. Mike is also a volunteer in the Lake County "Teen
Court" program. Mike is active in his local Episcopal
church and is a member of the Parish Vestry, currently serving
a second term as Senior Warden. In November, 2003, he was
elected to serve a three-year term as a member of the Standing
Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. In December
2006 Mike was elected president of the Standing Committee.
He resides in Lake County with his wife and daughter.
