After graduation from the Loyola University School of Law in Chicago, Laura served four years as an Assistant State's Attorney in central Illinois. In that position she prosecuted and tried traffic and misdemeanor matters in addition to child support cases.

Laura then joined the Lake County (Illinois) State's Attorney's office. After serving in that office's traffic, misdemeanor and juvenile court divisions, Laura served as a felony review assistant where she worked closely with local law enforcement authorities in the initial stages of criminal prosecutions, including practice before the Lake County Grand Jury. Thereafter, Laura prosecuted and tried all manner of drug felonies and was promoted to the position of Senior Assistant State's Attorney. In that capacity, she prosecuted and tried all manner of felony offenses over a six year period. These included the trial of a number of homicide and child sexual abuse cases to verdict. Consequently, Laura earned a well deserved reputation as a skilled felony trial prosecutor, particularly in the area of crimes against children.

Laura is a member of the State of Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar and is certified as a "Lead Counsel" by same. She is also a member of the Illinois State and Lake County Bar Associations, in addition to holding membership in the Association of Women Attorneys.
